The Herseys first trip to Disneyland…and with that, we spared no expense to make sure we were eating as much as we possibily could and sending those pictures hundreds of miles away back home to Chef Adam. Not sure what I’m talking about, take a look at our original article about why we take pictures of our food.
What do you say? Let’s get started with the food pictures.
Blue Bayou
- Resort: Disneyland
- Park: Disneyland Park
- Land: New Orleans Square
- Date: 10/20/2023 – Dinner
What was the first place on my list to eat at Disneyland? Blue Bayou of course. Why? Well, it wasn’t the food. This is the famous restaurant where you can sit and watch people voyage on a boat in Pirates of the Caribbean. We were pretty shocked to get this reservation, but Lauren was up early making sure she was first in line on the app to reserve. 4 o’clock pacific time was like lunchtime to us, so it all worked out okay.
I knew I would enjoy the ambiance, but the food was just as good. It was a long day, so we made sure to get some coffee. Lauren even decided to get some gumbo as an appetizer. The rest of us settled on some corn fritters, pasta pesto, creole chicken, and a kids steak.
The meal was really fantastic. The price was a little high, but we didn’t travel across the country to be cheap (we can do that in Florida). With a 10% DVC discount, we ended up paying just over $115.
Pym Test Kitchen
- Resort: Disneyland
- Park: California Adventure
- Land: Avengers Campus
- Date: 10/21/2023 – Lunch
Besides Blue Bayou, I was really excited to eat at Pym’s. The thought of having really big and really small food was fun. When you walked in, pretzels were moving through a device that would enlarge them to monstrous size. Of course, these were fake pretzels but I saw several individuals walk by with the real thing and they looked great.
I’m not sure if the food lived up to the hype. I managed to get buffalo chicken wings and they were really large, but didn’t taste so great. I like my wings well done and crispy. Maybe the size made it tough to get just right. The sauce was also slightly off for me.
On the other hand, we ordered the giant chicken sandwich (was very tasty) and some mini pasta and meatballs.
The food was okay and the theming was great.
A lost receipt makes it hard for me to remember how much we paid, but from a quick look at the menu, I would say $60.
Pizza Planet
- Resort: Disneyland
- Park: Disneyland Park
- Land: Tomorrowland
- Date: 10/22/2023 – Lunch
I remember eating at Pizza Planet at Disney’s Hollywood Studios way back in the day…and this version is much more fun. Aliens and, well, planets were all hovering over the ceiling and certainly fit the name. The food – well, we ordered pizza. It was exactly what you would expect from theme park pizza. Some psycho (Lauren) ordered a Cheeseburger Pizza and it had pickles on it. No thanks.
This meal cost about $55…and we had a ton of oranges leftover. Or are they called Cuties?
Carnation Cafe
- Resort: Disneyland
- Park: Disneyland Park
- Land: Main Street USA
- Date: 10/22/2023 – Dinner
I believe I heard some early stories about Carnation Cafe from The Disney Dish Podcast with Jim Hill, but I knew very little about it. When Lauren suggested 60+ days prior, I asked “is this where they served Walt’s chili?”. Yes, this is where they served Walt’s chili.
I opted against the chili and decided to get a burger…as I often do. The rest of the party took their stab at Mac n’ Cheese (those playing along at home could guess that’s my 16-year-old), Sourdough Melt, Turkey Sandwich, and some kid’s Mac n’ Cheese.
The food was good, but I’m not quite sure I loved it more than my Main Street USA Florida sit-down restaurant (The Plaza). With a discount, we paid around $100 for this dinner right on the original Main Street USA.
Aunt Cass Cafe & Lucky Fortune Cookery
- Resort: Disneyland
- Park: California Adventure
- Land: San Fransokyo Square
- Date: 10/23/2023 – Lunch
San Fransokyo Square (based on Big Hero 6) is the newest land to California Adventure (as I’m told). This food-court-esq area allowed us to order from a few locations and dine together – feasting over a Mac n’ Cheese bread bowl, Teriyaki chicken, pot stickers, and a Baymax inspired treat.
Let’s just say, we had too much food and we had to throw a lot of it away.
Between the two locations, we probably spent $75 or so.
Wine Country Trattoria
- Resort: Disneyland
- Park: California Adventure
- Land: Performance Corridor
- Date: 10/23/2023 – Dinner
My daughter, youngest son, and I waited to check-in as my oldest son and wife were stuck in the never-ending line of Mission Breakout…I thought we were going to lose our reservation. The nice people at Wine Country Trattoria walked us back to our table, even being over 30-minutes late. I’m guessing they are used to this.
If I recall, this was a last minute booking. Lauren managed to get a reservation the day before (maybe the day of). I was very, very happy with the results. We had a very good server, Anh, and the food was fantastic. Lauren ordered Gluten free Shrimp Alfredo and I did my standard Italian go-to, Chicken Parmesan. The kids got their normal cheese pizza and various Alfredo meals. It was like Olive Garden on steroids – which was a good thing for us. We basic folk love some Olive Garden.
The entire meal was just over $100.
Hungry Bear
- Resort: Disneyland
- Park: Disneyland Park
- Land:Critter Country
- Date: 10/24/2023 – Lunch
The irony is that we were so hungry (like bears) that we forgot to take pictures of most of our food. Oh well, Chef Adam will live. Not to mention, Miles had recently watched a video from TPMVids that discussed a few “easter eggs” around Hungry Bear. You know, the bathrooms that still showed the characters from Country Bear Jamboree, an attraction that was removed many years ago for Winnie the Pooh.
Without a solid receipt (probably on mobile order somewhere), it’s difficult to remember exaclty what we had…but we do have picture proof of the Funnel Cake with Ice cream.
Tangaroa Terrace
- Resort: Disneyland
- Hotel: Disneyland Hotel
- Date: 10/25/2023 – Breakfast
It was a bittersweet ending to our Disneyland trip. We managed to squeak out one final meal at the quick service location in the middle of Disneyland Hotel. Tangaroa Terrace gave us a nice taste of our home DVC resort – the Polynessian – and one of our favorite stops Capt’n Cooks.
Our meals were prepared in little brown boxes – maybe they were meant for ‘to-go’ orders, but we stayed inside and ate. I had a breakfast burrito, while the others had some bacon, potatoes, and standard pineapple slices. We also opted to get some treats – like a cupcake and giant candy corn shapped cookie.
The meal came out to $53 – which wasn’t horrible considering we got some snacks to go with the bacon.
More Pictures Coming in Less than a Month
Disneyland trip was planned for October, but we were asked to head to WDW in November for some [Disney Unpacked] filming. It didn’t take much for us to buckle and say yes… To be honest, I’ve been looking for a reason to go down to WDW during the holidays. More pictures of food to come.
