The Utilidor Isn’t So Magical After All

What really goes on beneath Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom? In this episode of Diz and Hers, Lauren and Eric dig into the mysterious—and surprisingly divisive—world of the utilidor. What fans imagine as a magical backstage system turns out to be something very different according to cast members. Plus, the duo explores what it’s actually like (and what it costs) to live near Disney in places like Golden Oak and Celebration.

The Utilidor Isn’t So Magical After All (Ep. 12) Transcript

Lauren Hersey Welcome to Dis and Hers, the show about what’s happening in the Disney community from his, hers, and your perspective. I’m Lauren.

Eric Hersey And I’m Eric and today we are going underground. We’re going to discuss what turns out to be what a very polarizing topic for what we find out as cast members, which is the utilidor. We also take a look at what it’s like and what it costs to live near Walt Disney World.

Lauren Hersey But before we get started, want to remind you that Diz and Herz can be found on all of your favorite podcast platforms, also in video format over on YouTube and Spotify. We’d love it if you could head over and give us a quick review and let us know what you want to hear us talk about on upcoming episodes.

Eric Hersey But I think we get right to it, Lauren. earlier this month, since we’re talking about social media channels, we launched ourselves a TikTok, didn’t we?

Lauren Hersey yeah, I love TikTok anyways, like I’m not on social media like a ton, but if I’m on social media, is TikTok. So it just made sense that Diz and hers had a home over there.

Eric Hersey Yeah, I’m not so much the tick tocker I’m still old school and hang out more on Instagram reels if I’m hanging out there at all But nonetheless, I think we started dabbling in tick tock. It was kind of funny what got what piqued our interest mostly is we have a 15 year old daughter who obviously uses tick tock quite frequently and she understands the trends and so forth and What did she do? What it was a month or two ago that what like had us all like what did you do? How many people saw that what’s going on here?

Lauren Hersey Yes, it’s so funny. So and she has like a spam account like so she just posts like funny weird stuff over there. But anyways, there’s this trend going on and it’s like when I’m bored, I remember blah, blah, blah, whatever. And there’s a song that goes with it. And so she shows our basement, which is themed as the utility door. And then she ends up in the wrestling ring.

Lauren Hersey that we have in our basement and the TikTok exploded because people obviously think that she’s like a wrestler’s child or something like that. But I think that video right now has like 700,000 views or something crazy.

Eric Hersey Right, which I mean from a viral standpoint, it’s not like it’s in the millions or so forth. But yes, you did hear that correctly. For those who haven’t listened to one of the other podcasts or just maybe glanced over that. Yes, we have a wrestling ring in the basement. You can probably find more stories about why and my love for pro wrestling and why we have a wrestling ring. But nonetheless, it is a from a viral trend standpoint, the girl walking down and boom, opening up a door and there’s this giant garage with a wrestling in there had

Eric Hersey you know, a lot of comments and lot of people wondering and asking questions. But what was really funny is kinda what you mentioned earlier is, our basement is kind of themed like a utilidor. As you guys are seeing here, if you’re watching on YouTube, you’ll see these blue walls, these purple walls, and that might not mean anything to anyone, but it sounds like there was a select point in time where cast members would be either triggered or like, look at that. But on the comments of her video, we started noticing things like…

Eric Hersey Hey, and you got the purple wall from Walt Disney World and or wrestling ring and the purple wall in the basement. Who exactly are you? And why did I spot a map of the utilidors? And she moves quickly through this video. So it is quick that these are like small sections. So when we’re creating the Tik Tok, it was almost like, Hey, this viral trend, is that still a thing? And Laney says, yes. And you kind of commissioned her to like, Hey, why don’t we do it with our basement? Right.

Lauren Hersey Yes. And so that is what she did. And I shared it and I was like, a family they die, know, Disney’s together stays together. So she like starts, she’s kicking her legs and then she just goes straight down the basement and it’s really quick. And she shows you, know, fantasy land, adventure land, the Liberty Square. And I mean, the comments just started rolling in. And I think at this point, I think the video has like a hundred and

Lauren Hersey 30, 140,000 views, but it wasn’t like what we expected. We thought, well, you know, people are going to think that, it’s weird the utility doors in our basement, but the cast members are who like really cropped up in the comments in a big, big way.

Eric Hersey Yeah, yeah, and I think that’s where we started talking more about I just thought people know about the Attilador and that’s not necessarily the case I don’t know if the I think it the common the number one like secret fact for people online and the what everybody knows is There’s an underground tunnel in the Magic Kingdom and you’ll see that all over the internet so

Eric Hersey That’s kind of what intrigued me at first when I was kind of going through my like Walt Disney World journey of like Do I like this place? Wow, I’m obsessed with this place things like

Eric Hersey That is is what kind of piqued my interest of like what they underground tunnels. Well, this seems crazy. So I Yeah, so when we moved in to this house, what was your rule? What did you say?

Lauren Hersey My role was everything. So we moved here in 2020 and the first two floors were basically mine. You know, like I decided the pink color and the flooring and you know, um, like the furniture, all of that. And so I told Eric, he could have the basement and do whatever he wanted to do.

Eric Hersey Yeah, so that’s when I decided that hey, there’s nothing better than making it look like a utilidor. Now this is a specific utilidor. This isn’t a utilidor, the modern actually, because the thing is with the utilidor, for all those that are still wondering what the hell are you even talking about? The utilidor is like the underground network where it is where all of the staff members have their costumes and where they get ready and then they come up through the doors and they actually get out into their land. And there’s wonderful stories about Walt being upset that there was like a spaceman in frontier land or frontier, you

Eric Hersey in Tomorrowland in some aspect. And he’s like, you we’re not going to have that again. And they created this tunnel. So that way you just pop up and you’re on stage and you’re in the location. And it’s an easy way to get like trash moved from one way to the other. And you know, whether it be carts of food, easy transport system. So there is this tunnel underground and it’s always, but there are like no pictures online. There are very few.

Lauren Hersey Yeah, you’re not allowed to film or anything, but the only way that we got we got to see it at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World because we did the Keys to the Kingdom tour.

Eric Hersey So we saw it with our own eyes, but I didn’t take any pictures and I’m like, oh, I liked, I liked the whole vibe of it. And so there are about four or five iconic pictures that are shared throughout the timeframe, uh, over the years. And I was like wanting to create kind of the nineties. So our utilidor basement is themed about, about 1994, because we also have a poster, uh, that, uh, indicates like the, map you can get online. And it’s a giant, huge poster that is at the very front of the basement when you walk down the

Eric Hersey And it’s and it has things like the timekeeper on it. I think it has like the Lion King show Like as titled so ours is based off like a 1994 a show We use this nice purple use a blue and so forth. I think colors have changed slightly but

Eric Hersey This kind of part of my obsession started with watching a video online. So I always got into Adam the Woo his initial like river country or urban exploring was like one of the things I’m like, wow, that is really, really interesting. And then of course I’m in the queue and the algorithm now starts feeding me stuff. And there was a channel called the dark side of Disney. I think it’s Leonard Kinsey actually took a handheld and I’m thinking it’s a big old bulky one into the utility door and kind of had it in a bag.

Eric Hersey recorded maybe 10 minutes have you seen this Lauren

Lauren Hersey No, I’ve not seen that one.

Eric Hersey Okay, so this is the one that kind of I was doing Zapruder film stopping and trying to get the color matching and figuring out exactly what colors we needed for each section. So the utilidor is broken down into it’s so large that the colored walls help the cast members determine where they’re at. Right.

Lauren Hersey Like where they’re at, it’s like directional, right?

Eric Hersey Right, you have Fantasyland is like a purple at the time, Tomorrowland is blue, Adventureland is an orange, it’s a lime green for Main Street USA, Liberty Square is actually red, blue, and white, and then Frontier is like a brown. So I went through and found all of this footage, stopped it, and then of course I painted the basement like the utilidor. I didn’t think anything of it. And of course,

Eric Hersey There was you need to since we had our largest room is blue on one side and purple on the other And then I decided we have this one whole wall that the purple wall was becoming a big fad at disney Which just so happens to be in tomorrow land So that wall is actually it blends the colors together and we have that cool shape pattern that goes across so I always tell people when i’m

Eric Hersey giving the tour of the Utilidor down here. I’m like, this is when we go up to the surface from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland. You walk across this and it goes back down and it’s blue. So it’s my cute little way of describing why we have the Tomorrowland purple wall in the back. But it’s a great, know, a lot of people talk about it in terms of like that is a weird basement that you have and it’s very interesting. I made you watch it last night. There was a video back in the 90s that was an inside look at the Utilidor.

Eric Hersey I didn’t find it until after the fact because this if I would have found this video would have been so much easier to create stuff But if you’re looking out online there was a program called inside out back in the day that was on the Disney Channel There is the Walt Disney World inside out utilidor and this gentleman goes through and shows all of the different How like colors and all the different areas which is a much watch if you are interested in more of the utilidor stuff so

Lauren Hersey Yeah, and it’s like a highly produced, like there’s little bits and stuff, but if you’re looking for this, it’s on the Disney live in YouTube channel.

Eric Hersey Yeah, that’s where I found it. might be other, I remember seeing this multiple places after we of course made this, but for those that are looking to see the Utilidor, that’s probably the best and there might be some new things out there. I know that Disney Plus did a, had maybe something on one of their channels that had a little bit more Utilidor, but those weren’t the right colors. We’re in 1994 here, so that’s kind what I was looking for. So long story short, we’re talking Utilidor, we’re talking about our video. Let’s talk about, you kind of mentioned what people were saying, what were some

Eric Hersey of the people saying when we posted our video.

Lauren Hersey Yeah, so there were like, I first have to say like, our vision of what the utilidor is or was, it’s like magical, right? It’s like the backstage area of Magic Kingdom.

Lauren Hersey And the comments say otherwise, I guess. So if you were a cast member, know, it’s clear that it’s not as magical as what we were thinking that it was. I mean, the things that were coming up, a nice compliment was, you can’t be filming backstage, right? They must be, you know, told that obviously there’s no filming.

Eric Hersey Yeah.

Lauren Hersey And then the funny one was like, this is the second video I’ve seen of this basement. It still doesn’t answer any of my questions. And so that guy must have seen our daughter’s video about the wrestling ring. And we were kind of teasing that a bit. And then we actually had a cast member or former cast member who’s a TikToker. His name is Peter Petrella.

Lauren Hersey He’s from the Orlando area and he saw our video and then made like a response video to our video. And like that video has had like 300,000 views or whatever. And his whole thought on it was like if people came to our home and didn’t know about the utilidor, like would they think we’re a bunch of weirdos?

Eric Hersey Yes, and the answer is yes that people do like because at the end of the day most of the people don’t have a clue of the Attilador especially what it looks like but at the end of the day if you just look at it it just looks like a themed room there’s lots of Disney pictures and so forth but it’s just hey there’s one wall that’s blue one wall that’s purple it’s not that big of a deal but he made a little funny comment off that but knowing that his reaction with these cast members that’s where it really sparked of like almost every single comment on here is some type of cast member saying my goodness why would you do that so it’s

Eric Hersey It seems like the magic kind of broke because we always thought the utilidor is a lovely fantastical place like with because it’s off limits. It’s kind of mysterious. But no, that’s not the case. So let’s look at some of the things that people were saying. The pure pixie dust is there a large trash compactor moving from Adventureland? And then Nicole commented as as as with like the WALL-E soundtrack going on. So it turns out that how did you get from this, Lauren? Do you you want they like have a lot of trash moving through all the time?

Lauren Hersey Yeah, it’s like really stinky down there, especially I guess near Adventureland because I mean, I will say maybe not a quarter, but a lot of people reference the smell. like I would say, you know, maybe a handful of people also mentioned like the same music playing over and over. Like, what’s the deal with the Wally soundtrack?

Eric Hersey I mean, obviously Wally’s collecting garbage in the movie. like I don’t remember the music per se, but they’re always talking about Trash in the Camp, which is from Tarzan, which is, I know that song. So they must play that a lot. I’m not familiar, and this is what’s interesting, because everybody was talking about that. They all asked about smell. It sounds like Adventureland’s the worst. And then they’re also talking about drips of unidentified liquid.

Lauren Hersey I I’m like concerned about the tunnel juice. This is theme parks with a sea and it says where’s the tunnel juice? I don’t like what is tunnel juice

Eric Hersey Yeah, it so it was really interesting to kind of hear and so Alex V says make it lore accurate by giving the area between fantasy land and tomorrow land a smell of fermenting rotting fruit trash and then the area below Main Street piping perfume So like we’re learning all types of things about the smells. I think there was one in adventure land They even talked about like burger grease So it’s so and a lot of these people and then just on tik-tok says where’s the keys to the kingdom tour? That’s in my way to clock in so I found that hysterical because we’ve done that so it sounds to me like groups gather

Lauren Hersey yeah.

Eric Hersey and these poor cast members can’t actually clock in. So there are all types of, you were talking about the subway down there, the Mascoteria, they were talking about, I don’t think anybody talked about the barber shop, which I was always interested in what I think is called Kingdom Cutters.

Eric Hersey But yeah, just a common trend of like all these things So of course we go over on the internet and we kind of want to try to find like more comments I was trying to find out like what the smell is. What do cast members really think? There’s not really a great forum, but you did find you till it’ll you till adore tour yay or nay on On reddit. What did what it was the synopsis on this? This is somebody that’s asking Should they do the tour or not?

Lauren Hersey Yeah. And is it worth it? So I mean, people are coming this while 50 aids like depends what you’re interested in. If you’re expecting some secret high tech underground operation, you’ll be severely disappointed that you tell it as look and feel old and every sense of the word. However, if you want a peek at how the Magic Kingdom cast members, they navigate around the park. I mean, it’s a good opportunity. And I mean, I loved what that

Lauren Hersey Tik Tok or Peter and said he had a comment. It was something like, you know, is she beautiful now, but she’s functional. So it’s kind of along the lines of that. You know, the former we also had Penpoo 95 that said as a former cast member here, we call it the Kill the Magic tour because it’s smelly. could be loud. There’s always people like driving around. Nothing nice to look at.

Lauren Hersey So I mean, the cast member perspective versus us as fans is just dramatically different.

Eric Hersey Yeah, and I think if you look at this online on TikTok and you see all the people that this is great. This is amazing versus like does it smell? It’s just funny that obviously Disney the algorithm for Disney folk really set this out and there was two two classifications those that had to work at the utilidor and look at as a this is where I take my breaks because I imagine if you take me back to an old place where I was working I probably wouldn’t feel like the break room in the back of a mall was some sanctuary but where at least us it’s like all this is this is this for

Eric Hersey place and the only time we’ve gone down was a tour keys of the kingdom tour which it was lovely I don’t remember a smell I don’t remember being any issues but then again that might be the part of the tour where it’s like keep this as clean as possible because this is part of this show this is the stage and people did comment on that so

Eric Hersey I think it was interesting enough to share with everyone and to talk about the utilidor in general and see what people, but I really want to hear more, not just from this comment. I want to hear if there’s any cast members, former or current that’s working. Like, are there any elements of the, you know, that we wouldn’t, we want to talk about more here.

Lauren Hersey Or like that we should actually consider doing to our basement. mean, we might not do the like smell or like mystery sludge or anything like that, but definitely tell us. And, you know, one of the comments, I think it was on that Peter Petrel is was that this is definitely an Airbnb next door to Magic Kingdom in Orlando. And I responded and I was like, not even close because, you know, we’re in West Virginia and.

Lauren Hersey I’m like, and that’s our basement. And she’s like, my gosh. Well, I just, you know, I figured or whatever. But it does make sense that somebody would think that maybe this was a house in Golden Oaks because they’re all highly themed. So after the break, we’re moving down the street to Golden Oaks or celebration to talk about what it’s like and how much it costs to live so close to Disney world. But first this.

Lauren Hersey And we’re back. So we’ve gone from talking about our Disney inspired basement, and now we want to touch base on some of the communities that have Disney inspired homes.

Eric Hersey Right, but we’re not just talking about like Disney themed rooms. We’re talking about places like Golden Oak or Celebration, right?

Lauren Hersey Yeah, like actual Disney owned operated communities or formerly owned operated communities. And I mean, I have to. Yeah, a little.

Eric Hersey Right.

Eric Hersey And you had some experience with this. Let me do that again so we don’t talk over each other. And you’ve had some experience talking about this before,

Lauren Hersey yeah, a little bit. So, as you know, I host the, want that to podcast with Jim Disney history, consumer products. And, we were talking about like, home line of, know, things you could buy for your kitchen or whatever. And then we ended up doing a deep dive.

Lauren Hersey into what it’s like to live at Disney World, Golden Oak specifically. And this was like way back. We’re almost on our 100th episode and this was episode seven. So back in the day when we first started doing it, Eric was making videos for YouTube to go along with the show. And I think this one, was this our most viewed video?

Eric Hersey This one are Muppets in Space, it’s tough to sell, but this one actually did the, this one did pretty well considering that we don’t have a giant following and we weren’t as consistent as we needed to be to make sure that worked.

Lauren Hersey Hahaha

Lauren Hersey Yeah, yeah. So I mean, looking at Golden Oak and where it’s at. So that is inside Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. But that’s not the only Disney property, I guess, for residential living. There’s is it Contino in California?

Eric Hersey Listen, it sounds good enough for me. Cotino, Cotino, C-O-T-I-N-O, however you want to pronounce it. But it is in California. It’s around like what the Rancho Mirage or it’s around Palm Springs, I think. It’s like the, it’s story living.

Lauren Hersey Yeah, I Jim, yeah, Jen or Jen Jim tells a story I believe about how they manufactured that like giant like it looks like it was always there. But yeah, so there’s that in California. And then there is the new one that’s coming to North Carolina, Astoria, and it is planned in like the Raleigh Durham area.

Lauren Hersey and right now it’s still in development. So obviously this Disney themed living is catching on.

Eric Hersey Right, the thing is, we know a little bit about Golden Oaks, since I watched your video and we watched enough on it, that there are these really, really expensive houses, and a lot, they’re not all themed Disney, but there are a couple. I remember the one that we were looking at had like a lot of Beauty and the Beast inspired, like subtle hints inside, like there was a library with beasts, you know, like heads and maybe the, I think Lumiere was on like a lamp post or like on a post. It was interesting, but these are…

Lauren Hersey yeah.

Lauren Hersey I mean they’re incredible. Do you remember the Star Wars one with like the movie theater? And it had like the life-size Chewbacca.

Eric Hersey Right, Right, so we’re not saying that they’re all Disney fans. I mean, it is on Disney property, but they are all very expensive homes. So like Golden Oak, when you were looking it up, what were these homes going for? Because I know you did a lot more research on it than I did.

Lauren Hersey Yeah. So like right now I think they’re going between like 4 million and 18 million. But the crazy thing was that like when this development started to roll out that homes were like way, way less. And now I was just talking to my boss about this and he was saying that the monthly like HOA fees and that kind of stuff, they’re like $10,000 a month. Like it’s

Eric Hersey Yeah, yeah.

Lauren Hersey crazy so like you gotta be a high roller if you wanna be living at Disney World.

Eric Hersey Right.

Eric Hersey And these are the people, I mean, if you’re living at Disney World, can literally, you’re on property so you can drive. So there’s a premium there. And is, was there some type of ticket arrangement where you could get like tickets? it some type of pass that you can get there where, where with like the California, North Carolina, you’re not looking at that. So the house prices, the houses might be as elaborate, but there’s not that premium to be on property.

Lauren Hersey Yeah, I think that these houses, California was more into like the one to four million range. then similar is going to be in North Carolina from what I understand. But there are a lot of parks at Golden Oak that you wouldn’t get in those, you know, other areas. The property taxes in Golden Oak, I mean, sometimes can exceed six figures.

Lauren Hersey I mean, you’ve got to consider the insurance. I do think it comes with some type of passes. You get this club access. And I do remember seeing that they have their own Disney Resort bus. Do you remember seeing that? Yeah.

Eric Hersey Yeah, and you see it every now and then. mean, we drive by this. I don’t know what route, but when we would go to certain hotels, we’d have to drive by it and it’s kind of gated off and you’re like, Ooh, that’s where that’s where all the fancy people are. But there, so there are going to be some, so they’re kind of rolling out this story living throughout. And I imagine how well it does in California will determine and obviously how well it does in North Carolina. See how many more, but there are a lot of, you know, aspects of this that it’s like kind of living in a Disney community.

Eric Hersey But it’s you know it’s not so it’s just a high-end neighborhood that is done by Disney. I don’t know what kind of involvement Disney necessarily has but living so close to property in California has it was interesting so I went online because I wanted to I wanted to hear from somebody that lived there and I was hoping to find a vlog the best I could do was find this Instagram account now this Instagram account the first one that showed up was the traveling red

Eric Hersey Did you ever come across this account before Lauren? Is this the first time you’re hearing about it? All right. Yeah, so it seems to be the Traveling Red has 182,000 followers. She’s a digital creator. Her byline is mom traveler creator, second home in Disney, Golden Oaks, and partnerships with Disney, Amazon, Pottery Bar, and so forth. her first, I just wanted to see what people were saying. And…

Lauren Hersey No, I’ve never seen this account before.

Eric Hersey One of her first posts, the first one that showed up was just essentially her and a kid maybe in a pool and it says, house is inside Disney World, but the quiet days at home are some of my favorites. Kind of, you know, sure, and it got a decent amount of likes. But I’d go to the comments, not necessarily to be mean or cruel, but you know people are gonna be having their opinions. Are there any comments that kind of broke out to you?

Lauren Hersey Yeah, so we get Arianna Noel and she’s like my algorithm must think I’m in a different tax bracket Or MVP 94. It’s true. I waited in line to sit on their couch and it was awesome

Eric Hersey Yeah.

Eric Hersey Yeah, you gotta get that express pass. Now then I found my mean one, which is essentially someone saying, hey, when your entire personality is where your house is. I did think it was kind of weird to have like in the byline, but we found her that way. So there weren’t enough people like that. But then again, there’s somebody that comes around and says, the projection comments are so yucky. Work on your personal wealth. This should motivate you instead of making you scoff. Not a good look. So yes, there were people that were basically kind of showing some jealousy and hey,

Lauren Hersey Right.

Eric Hersey Listen, I think it would be cool to have live at Golden Oak. I don’t know if I’d make a whole page based off of that, but if I had that kind of money, I certainly wouldn’t be not living at Golden Oak. would love to live. Yeah.

Lauren Hersey I think it’s smart. Like from a brand perspective, like you want to tell people exactly who you are and what you’re about. And the people that can’t like zero in are the people that struggle, I think online sometimes. And so if you want to like just give the people what they want, I want to know.

Eric Hersey Yeah, so she that so there’s an account if you want so I always thought Lauren, know, Golden Oak is kind of new, right? But I always thought celebration was the the Golden Oak. always thought celebration was where you when you lived on property, which that has gone through some transformation. I always thought like celebration is probably really really expensive to live. I essentially got into that wormhole and went directly to Google and said how much does it cost to live at celebration and the AI overview, which everybody is now

Lauren Hersey Make sense?

Eric Hersey seeing on their searches and I don’t know if I 100 % trust it yet but here’s what it’s saying it says living in Celebration Florida is expensive with housing costs roughly 39 % higher than the national average so it sounds to me like houses are 600,000 plus with the rents being about a thousand six hundred dollars monthly so it kind of breaks other stuff but at that point in time

Lauren Hersey feel like that is like normal American like living. I don’t think that that’s astronomical if that’s correct. If you live in celebration, let us know.

Eric Hersey Yeah, well that’s kind of what we’re trying to figure out here. I don’t know what…

Eric Hersey you know, everyone spends throughout the country. We live in one area and we know what our median income and housing costs are. I wasn’t, I, once again, I don’t necessarily trust the AI overview yet. So I went to the people’s internet, which is Reddit, and I typed the same thing in and actually found it on same grass, but greener sub Reddit. So I believe this is like a tourism or like a relocation place where like people are asking where the best places to live and found a thread that is celebration Florida.

Eric Hersey their perfect place and it says all the posts about walkable semi-affordable town and a quaint downtown strong job market access to health care can all be answered by Celebration Florida literally built as the perfect town by Disney it answers all of these so why isn’t it brought up here so people this person is wondering why no one ever recommends Celebration Florida did you find any answers from this thread

Lauren Hersey I love this. I love this name. It says exhausted teacher 79. I used to live there. It’s kind of creepy and giving like uncanny valley vibes. They literally have speakers playing bird noises. The population skews a lot older, like as you can imagine. And if you want to feel like you live at Disney, then maybe go for it. But personally, it like lacked authentic character.

Eric Hersey Yeah, yeah, and I you saw a lot of people talking there people that live there and so forth

Lauren Hersey I’m like, is that real? They’re just like piping in bird noises?

Eric Hersey I want to know I want to know well the other one says salt and lilac says it’s not perfect they have poor constructions high HOA fees bad management And she says or he or she says there was a good YouTube video that explains the struggle with celebration so that and everyone Well, I don’t think this was the YouTube we watched a documentary. I think I paid no no I paid good money for this I think I paid a couple bucks on Amazon you still can get it’s called the bubble Which is a documentary about celebration, Florida? Which somebody kind of talks to a whole bunch of people that live there and it talks slightly about

Lauren Hersey I remember this.

Lauren Hersey this wasn’t it?

Eric Hersey the start up of how it came about director was Philip Swift and it that we probably watched it five years ago maybe it came out in 2012 so it’s older

Lauren Hersey Yeah. Eric, did you see this? It starts with murder sex in Disney.

Eric Hersey Yeah, I mean, I’m sure Disney PR love this and approve them. Surprise it’s not on Disney Plus, but.

Lauren Hersey yeah.

Eric Hersey This was a decent I remember watching that but so I went online and I do remember watching some YouTube videos and there was actually two creators and I watched them as I watched them last night again just to get reacquainted We watched them originally. So there’s a gentleman named Tyler Thompson He’s probably an underground like really good creator that doesn’t probably have as many followers as he should Not only did they do it. He do a good celebration Documentary called celebration Disney’s town of yesterday. He also did this really great series with Michael Eisner and like

Eric Hersey It was pretty much the book Disney War but done in a documentary style. It’s three hours long. Yeah.

Lauren Hersey was so good. Go give Tyler a follow.

Eric Hersey Yeah, yeah. And the other one that I always enjoyed was a channel called Midway to Main Street, and it was formerly known as Rob Plays. And he kind of dropped off the planet. Oddly enough, he just showed up in my podcast feed for the TTA podcast, I think. So he must have just had a baby. And he has been like AWOL forever, but he hasn’t made a video forever. But he did a two part series of Celebration Florida, Disney’s not so perfect town, which does a really, really, really great job of explaining how it was built and what it’s like to live there.

Eric Hersey So we went to the comments and kind of looked at it. I mean, there was a lot of comments on this one of people that live there once live there want to move there and It was a good insight on like what it’s like to live in celebration

Lauren Hersey Yeah, I mean, people are saying like people working in the town shops like couldn’t afford to live there, Florida in a nutshell or, you know, I live in celebration. I can tell you that at least for right now, it’s like any other town. I feel like it’s the celebrity of small towns. Like celebrities are just like people to like making their dinner, eating, you know what I mean? Scroll it on TikTok.

Eric Hersey You

Lauren Hersey And so based on the comments and like Adam the woo God rest his soul. love Adam He actually got to move to celebration and lived in an apartment there and like we Eric and I were

Eric Hersey Yeah.

Lauren Hersey I mean just baffled that he actually showed like the inside of his apartment in every room and gave us a tour like that’s why you really feel like you know these creators but like I mean it looked like a normal apartment to me like we’ve stayed at the Malia several times which would be like right outside of like Celebration Proper so we’ve gone downtown and they have a beautiful lake and you know we got macarons at their baker’s

Lauren Hersey But it very much feels like, you know, there’s a school zone, a bunch of little kids, like normal. Yeah.

Eric Hersey Yeah, we got stuck behind the bus. Yeah, I remember that. Yeah. But it is it was weird. I would love I would love to experience a little bit more celebration. We’ve only gone there a couple of times. I mean, we were the tourists that literally were going because we’ve heard so much about it. And it seemed like it had a giant golf course and so forth. So I think living there would be really, really cool to be so close to the parks. But and it does kind of seem like a perfect little community. just reminded me a lot of like, remind me like a Wanda vision, you know, when they had

Lauren Hersey Yeah.

Eric Hersey the community and everything was kind of together and you would just envision you know Halloween everybody dressed up everybody giving out and I and I could be wrong but I do think Len either lived there or does live there and and he talks about how many candy bars they have to give out you know they’re gonna take out like a loan to give out

Lauren Hersey Yes!

Lauren Hersey man, I bet you they get a ton of surrounding area people that come to that town like once the word gets out that you give the full-size candy bars look out

Eric Hersey Yeah, yeah, so I just think that is interesting. So whether you, you know, are like us and we’re very far away from Florida, but we have our inspired Florida basement, Utilidor, and the subtle little nods or your golden oak and you are living a really good life and you’re staying real close or you’re in the celebration area. It is just kind of interesting this whole living Disney kind of vibe and…

Eric Hersey Interesting to see we have lots of comments and I think lots of people have their opinions So this is a perfect time for you also to give us your opinion number one What do you think of the utilidor if you’re a cast member number two? Do you have anything themed are you Disney themed are you near you know celebration? Do you live in Golden Oaks really have lots of questions? And I would love to come to a house party and do you live or want to live in celebration lots of things you can talk to us about

Lauren Hersey Yeah. And if you want to give us thoughts on our basement, go follow us on TikTok at Diz and Hers. There’s cheap plug there. But that does it for this week’s episode of Dis and Hers.
